Reverse proxy still needed?

I just upgraded our upsource from 2017.2 to 2018.1 and I see there is an option on the upgrade procedure to configure the service over https and set the certificates on the same configuration interface.

Is now https handled entirely by upsource now?

We have Upsource on a server with Nginx, where the only purpose of Nginx was acting as reverse proxy and therefore encrypting connexions. Could we take rid of it now with the new version? What are the advantages/disadvantages of both configurations?

Thanks.
